Really? I loved listening to Reagan speak. I know what you mean about someone’s speaking style rubbing me the wrong way - Cruz does that to me big time.

I recall Reagan's voice as a combination of compassion, strength, and power. He had a commanding presence, a serious leader for a serious time. I admire how he tackled tough decisions. His "surly bounds" speech in '86 is mesmerizing as he addressed the hopes of a nation and the sadness at the loss of our STS crew.

Neither Cruz nor Trump have the personality or wit of Reagan. Ted is nasally and condescending; Trump is gruff and very brief. Reagan had a combination of quick wit, subtle humor, and oratory skills unmatched by most politicians. He was a statesman in every sense of the word. Unfortunately, I no longer see any of our politicians as true "statesmen." I believe Reagan had a real love for this republic - very deep contrast to the elite crowd today.

I loved listening to Reagan speak.

Here is an example. Reagan is about to return home to Nancy, after a summit with Gorbachev in Reykjavik, Iceland (12 October 1986). Before flying home, he addresses the troops at Keflavík:
