In addition to voters that do regularly participate in elections, Trump is also getting votes from a segment of the population that doesn’t normally vote. Those people do not care about elections or politics and are not well-informed and are easily swayed. It’s the reality TV / Kardashian / Honey Boo Boo voters.
He has modified that to “the less educated.” There is nothing pejorative in that.
