DOJ has no right to ask, or demand this. Apple committed no crime.

Lynch and BO will force Apple but not force the IRS or Clinton to turn over anything.

If they force this issue, Apple will bail the US.

Best bet is Canada, probably. Easiest way to do it? Double down and buy Blackberry, and decide to HQ in Toronto or Quebec City.

If this isn’t an opportunity for Trump, I’m not sure a better one ever came about. He can make a deal with Cook, and Apple AT LEAST sits this cycle out.

All Trump has to say is, “There are better ways of catching bombers and head-choppers than compromising everybody’s privacy. That’s what used to make America great - we found a way that didn’t end up throwing the baby out with the bathwater.”

Because a muslim getting a case of “sudden jihadi syndrome” & slitting the throat of a 17 y/o in a shopping mall whille shouting Allahu Ahkbar is not a existential threat to the politicians . Pissed off citizens who view their elected Congressman as a self propelled sack of dog waste are a threat to the politicians.

Rubber hose/TASER cryptanalysis ie they put you in a jail cell & then have a couple of guards work you over while falsifying a report on how you got in a fight in the jail.

It's hard for me to believe that the NSA can't just reverse engineer an emulator for an iPhone and run a gazillion emulators on AWS until the password is cracked.

Looks to me that this is a political decision to establish a legal precedent to coerce IT companies into cooperating with efforts to crack IT systems.

Afterwards, every time a smartphone is seized, even in domestic criminal cases, the manufacturer will be ordered to provide a hack or simply provide a back door so law enforcement can get in whenever they want.

Another example where the government would prefer to trash our rights and privacy rather than just get control of the borders: if they keep the Islamists out, and deport the ones already here, they wouldn't need to crack a smartphone in a terrorism case inside the US.

Bingo.

There are Linux and Android devices that can be encrypted too. Do they think they can force the open source community to implement specific features?? Good luck.

If Apple should comply, it should give them the code the same way HRC delivered her e-mails: on paper.

Also, it wouldn’t be a bad idea to remove all the comments, left-justify all the code, rename variables to random names, an print it on a dot matrix printer with a bad ribbon. Oh, and drop the box with all of the code so that it is not in order.

I'm trying to imagine a scenario where Apple iPhone/iPad users (or even Mac users at all...) who just so happen to be Democrats would be happy with a Democrat Administration seeking to undermine their right to privacy by demanding the source code for iOS.

I'm also struggling to imagine any registered Democrat voter being happy with either Shrillary Clinton or Bernie "The Communist" Sanders backing the DOJ here ...

But I could be wrong.

Obama says they need to have access to all mobile phones, not only to fight crime, but to stop tax evasion. He says people could go around with a Swiss bank account and that data would be on their phone.

This issue isn’t about Apple and the feebs at all. obama et. al. have a much bigger plan with this, if they get away with it.

Without the video evidence, the court would have taken the cop’s word that the woman pointed a crossbow at him
