Don’t forget JITS, Just In Time Supply.
Trucks are what make JITS the money saver it is for business.

Think about all the rail yards that would have to be built or expanded to get trucks off the road.
Billions of dollars and decades of environmental impact studies then decades of court battles.

Then there is the union aspect.
All railroads are union.
Who would want to put the entire economy into the hands of a single union?
Only a committed socialist.
