They bought Rubio off and turned him into attack dog with Super PAC money and promise of support for his future run for Governor of Florida in 2018. At his age he can run again for POTUS during his 2nd term as Governor. He would still be quite young. His recent stump speeches sound more like stand-up comedy routine. The question he is debating now is whether to quit the POTUS race before Florida primary since losing Florida would make him look bad, politically damaged, and harm his chances for a run for Governor.
