It is all about winning for Ted and Heidi. After all they have those loans to pay off.

The loans have grown, but paying them off was going to be no problem---IF he became President. The "loans" of course were payments in advance for influence, like dozens of contributions to his at least dozen pacs. Besides Goldman Sachs, there was Club of Growth, and many individuals, including gay marriage activists and lesbian activists. And don't forget scofflaw Robert Mercer, NY Hedge Fund Manager in desperate need of intervention with the IRS for massive back taxes he owes.

The question is how do you pay off the loans if you don't GET the job you need that has the influence.

Nine days after Ted became senator, Heidi was promoted from Goldman Sachs Vice President to managing director, and the only next step up was partner, and as first lady you can bet partner was the next thing on the ladder.

Will GS keep her if she doesn't have the promised influence? (As she did in the couple of years while she was at the White House advising on investment banks, the two years leading up to TARP, which Goldman Sachs made out like bandits on.) Would they keep her on, and would Ted be able to work off his debt with favors as a senator? He never accomplished anything as senator--he tried, on Gang of 8, on H1B increases, on TPA and TPP. (well he succeeded on TPP)

One thing for sure, his total lack of character or loyalty has ruled him out for the spot of VP on a Trump ticket.

I do think that Cruz will be a focal point at the convention and the machinations planned by Jeb and Mitt to booger with the rules. And now they have a great "reason": We've got to do SOMETHING---we can't let a man like Trump, who promotes and incites violence and whose mouth is out of control, become our nominee.
