Two vintage planes used in the Vietnam War have been brought out of retirement to help US special forces in Iraq.

A pair of OV-10 Broncos completed 120 combat missions over the Middle East between May and September last year, it has been revealed.

The turbo-prop jet is thought to have carried out 134 sorties over 82 days in May, acting as cover for the soldiers fighting ISIS terrorists on the ground.

equaviator,

The lower fuel burn means you can nix the tip tanks, and add some composite slightly "sheared tips" for reductions in drag, greater high altitude performance, like "Precious Metal" below. VG's smoother wings, airfoil change(?) could help on the bottom and top end. A one point they were talking about adding Fowler Flaps to reduce takeoff runs etc, something to consider. Cockpit upgrade from steam gages? Yaowzer, I can't imagine the weight reduction, huge. It might be quite a Hot Rod with all the upgrades.

If I ever do win the Lottery big enough (it helps to buy a ticket once in a while...) I want to buy an already-airworthy Dragonfly, make it even better and fly it in air shows around the country. I’d keep it at home in a custom-built pole barn and just tow it over to a rural airfield once in a while for some practice twice a month but I’d leave it a two-seater for taking HOOTERS chicks up and making them all dizzy (or dizzier) and scared...Then, bring them back safe at home.

Nevermind the Hooters girls, I'll wear a wig and get dizzy for you just to get a ride! ;-)

Even then I’d let you ride for free.

No idea about Jato capabilities, never saw that.

I have seen its engine though.

The dragonfly always hit me as the MG of aircraft. Looks like a whole lot of fun.

It almost looks like one of those flying cars you sometimes hear about.

Please no. Jet noise and fuel economy with prop performance. It would be easier to buy more Super Tucanos, if we could get Beechcraft to stop suing.

Not high enough to hang a decent sized EO/FLIR from, marginal performance for high/hot/heavy. The added humiliation of looking up at your plane captain.

“The added humiliation of looking up at your plane captain.”

Maybe could worry about that after leaving ISIS in a smoldering heap of sizzling sons of bitches.
