They should have to apply in person for tickets, and provide their driver’s license or some sort of ID.

Really. When my DH managed a secure government site, anyone who wanted to visit (RARELY happened), or anyone just coming to a meeting, had to fill out tons of paperwork about a week in advance. It was turned over to DOD or FBI or SS (can’t recall), and each person was thoroughly investigated.
This crap about letting in every hippie bum who goes through a metal detector is ridiculous.
