Silly me,I always thought that academics were the prime function of a University.

In the SEC...yep. Football is king.
One would think so. I am sure stories like that one abound at colleges and universities with Division I football and basketball teams.
I teach at a Division III school. One female basketball player told her coach, “I am only here to play basketball.”
She was off the team that day and left the college within a few days.
