Actually it is about the GOPe donor class wanting to reduce payments into the SS trust fund. I was working in a corporation lobbying for the SS changes. The wink and the nod was the millions that would be saved as private savings accounts supported by the GOPe went into effect.
You probably know more about this subject than I do....I am still open to changes in the future.
This, after the elites managed to get the whole pension system thrown out of our economy. Pensions used to be a staple benefit of long-term employment with a company, but the government and courts let them slide (not pay into the pension what they were supposed to) or bankrupt their way out of the obligation.
Many of us are screwed for a decent retirement, after working for years for the promised pension, just to have it pulled out from under us.
