TRUMP OPENING STATEMENT (at least I hope it is)
There are four good men on this stage. In the heat of battle, we sometimes say and do things about which we have second thoughts and regrets. When this process is finished, I hope we end the battle, mend wounds, work together, and accomplish what we all want — putting a Republican in the White House, saving the country, and making it great again. Our allies will once again fear us and our friends will once again trust us.
We are at a dangerous time in our nation’s history, facing a nuclear Iran, relentless Islamic terror, an immigration policy out of control, a lack of jobs, particularly in minority communities, and an increasing debt with which we will be burdening our children and grandchildren.
To those who have followed our laws, came here from all parts of the world through the legal process, and embrace the American dream and its values, I am proud to call you a fellow American.
To men and women in inner cities, who have dwindling job prospects and little hope, we are going to change that. We will work with minority entrepreneurs to build businesses, train you for jobs, and give you the chance to have a good life if you are willing to work hard and play by the rules.
And to our veterans to whom we owe a debt we can never repay, I promise you that help is on the way.
