He never said it wasn’t a BBB rating. It obviously was. It’s just that the BBB didn’t send it directly to him, in direct contradiction of what so many of the anti-Trumpers are claiming in a vain attempt to portray him as a liar.
Trump University did indeed hold an A- rating from the BBB, at least for a while.
Trump did receive a faxed copy of this rating, from his office, during the debate, and declared it as coming from his office.
The anti-Trumpers, in a desperate attempt to land a blow against Trump, have mischaracterized the scenario as Trump claiming that he received that copy of the rating *directly* from someone at the BBB, so they can then turn around and accuse him of lying about it, brandishing the BBB quote that they never sent anything to him.
It’s perfectly true that the BBB never sent Trump anything. But since Trump never claimed that, the claim is irrelevant.

It did for a fact, but only after it went out of business (without informing BBB of course) and no NEW complaints came in.
