Great you took the time to check on the number of subsidiaries. It's quite amazing -- unbelievable success rate. Compare that to the venture capital model (Romney) and they say the success rate is 1 in 10. I liked your analysis of leadership and great to hear the lessons you learned climbing the ladder. I was in the Navy for 9 years-- made it as far as Lieutenant. It greatly broadened my mind living in San Diego and Japan, but I learned pretty early on that I wasn't cut out for that kind of organization. So for the last 22 years I've been self-employed as an industry analyst in telecom/IT. So I'm really an individual contributor, not a manager. Even still, you learn all sorts of lessons -- and that helps me advise small and medium sized software firms on market dynamics and where to go next. If you haven't seen my FR analysis of Trump's book: Art of the Deal, check out my column on that -- I think you'll enjoy it. I've also got another column coming up comparing Trump to three nautical captains -- ship, ketch, yacht -- all named Intrepid. So this is an amusing little hobby of mine. |
