The Post-ABC poll finds that more than half of Republicans and GOP-leaning independents think Trump is dishonest, does not understand their problems, lacks the right experience, and does not have the right personality and temperament to be an effective president. By contrast, more than 6 in 10 Republicans say Cruz is honest, empathetic, and has the right temperament and experience; similar shares say Rubio has the first three qualities, while half say he has the right experience.
In a hypothetical head-to-head test of strength between Trump and Cruz, Republicans say they prefer the senator by 54 to 41 percent. Rubio is a narrower favorite in a one-on-one test against Trump, with an edge of 51 to 45 percent. The survey did not test a Trump-Kasich face-off.

Among all Americans, Trump has a more negative image by far than Cruz or Rubio or than Clinton. Two in 3 adults say they have an unfavorable impression of Trump,

Matched against his remaining rivals, Trump continues to perform slightly better among Republicans without college degrees than those who are university graduates, although he has an edge with both groups. He has a wider lead among voters younger than 50 than with older voters. Among white evangelical Christians, Trump narrowly trails Cruz, but among non-evangelicals and white Catholics, his lead is almost 2 to 1.
Matched directly against Cruz, though, Trump loses voters with or without college degrees, voters who see themselves as working class and middle class, and those with higher and lower incomes. Trump loses conservatives against Cruz, especially those who say they are “very conservative,” and the two tie among moderate and liberal Republicans.

On February 29, 2016, New York Times reporters Amy Chozick and Patrick Healy provided an insider analysis of the Clinton team’s plan to defeat Donald Trump. Citing interviews with “more than two dozen” Clinton insiders, including several who spoke directly to Bill Clinton, the article reported on a series of emergency meetings Clinton supporters convened to respond to Donald Trump’s February 20 victory in South Carolina and his February 23 win in Nevada. The article reported that Bill Clinton and others argued against those inclined to underestimate Trump “that Mr. Trump clearly had a keen sense of the electorate’s mood and that only a concerted campaign portraying him as dangerous and bigoted would win what both Clintons believe will be a close November election.”
On February 25, the Anti-Defamation League issued a press release in which ADL National Chair Marvin D. Nathan and ADL CEO Jonathan A. Greenblatt called upon Trump “ to distance himself from white nationalist and former KKK Grand Wizard David Duke, as well as other white supremacists, and publicly condemn their racism”. Nathan and Greenblatt’s press release acknowledged that Duke had not endorsed Trump and Trump had already told NBC News in December that he would repudiate an endorsement from Duke, but it insisted that he must do so again “unequivocally”. Greenblatt, who recently replaced Abraham Foxman at the ADL’s helm, had previously been described in 2014 by Daniel Greenfield of the David Horowitz Freedom Center as “a Clinton official who bummed around NGOs during the Bush years and then became Obama’s director of the White House’s Office of Social Innovation and Civic Participation”. Greenfield’s article exposed Greenblatt’s association with the Aspen Institute, funded by former Nazi collaborator George Soros, who had previously been condemned as a bigot by the ADL. In September 2015, Greenblatt had painted Ben Carson as a bigot, saying, “Dr. Ben Carson’s statement that a Muslim American should not serve as president is deeply offensive, un-American and contrary to the Constitution.” In December 2015, after several months of the ADL sparring with Carson, Greenfeld had issued a press release condemning Trump’s call to seal the border against Muslims.
On February 28, the Anti-Defamation League’s February 25 press release was cited by Jake Tapper in the CNN State of the Union interview that triggered the recent uproar over Trump and Duke. Tapper, who had previously been ABC’s Senior White House Correspondent for several years following Obama’s election, has had a long career in Washington, which started as a campaign press secretary for Democratic Congressional candidate Marjorie Margolies-Mezvinsky, mother of Chelsea Clinton’s then-future husband Marc Mezvinsky, and also included dating Monica Lewinsky before her scandal with Bill Clinton broke.
On March 7, Greenblatt’s ADL predecessor Abraham Foxman renewed the attack on Trump, telling Times of Israel reporter Eric Cortellessa that Trump was deliberately inviting his audience to make a “fascist gesture” by raising their hands to pledge to vote for him. Foxman insisted that Trump is “smart enough to know the images that this invokes”, and he brought up the Duke controversy again, adding, “ Even though he proclaims he doesn’t know who David Duke was, or the other white supremacists, we know very well that he knows. So he’s playing to an image.” In 1993, shortly after Bill Clinton’s election, Foxman had begun lobbying the Clinton administration to release convicted spy Jonathan Pollard. In 2001, it was revealed that after the ADL received $250,000 from Marc Rich, who had been convicted of tax evasion and illegally making oil deals with Iran during the Iran Hostage Crisis, Foxman concocted the plan that led to Bill Clinton’s controversial pardon of Rich. More recently, Foxman became an apologist for Obama’s Palestinian policies, insisting in 2011 of Obama’s call for two-state borders based on 1967 lines that “I don’t see this as the president throwing Israel under the bus.” In 2012, Foxman called for Congressmen concerned about Islamic lobbying to “stop trafficking in anti-Muslim conspiracy theories”. In 2014, Foxman voted to include J Street in the Conference of Major Jewish Organizations after J Street defended John Kerry’s characterization of Israel as “apartheid”.

They just haven’t gotten to know him yet.
Amen to that, especially that last sentence.
Policy-wise, I think Trump is much closer to the mainstream than is Cruz. And based on policy, the "establishment" should prefer Trump to Cruz.
Where Trump loses out is on his juvenile tone and lack of seriousness. This "everything is great and we're going to win" junk scares the crap out of people who want a nominee that won't embarrass the party as a whole. Regardless of whose speeches he's pulling that from, it's garbage on its own merits.
Considering how much the establishment disliked Cruz prior to this primary season, becooming that despised is quite an accomplishment by Trump. I'm not thrilled with the choices we've got. Cruz's preachy cadence and diction is not going to play well. But I can at least vote for Cruz in the primary and general without being ashamed of my vote.
America, this is not the best we can do!!
If you think the GOPe is going to back Trump or Cruz, you're delusional.
That is NOT intended to throw shade at Cruz, but I have zero confidence the GOPe will support him in the general election.
“The Post-ABC poll finds” = LOL, 80% Democrats surveyed? Sure most of us believe Cruz is great, but will he actually win? Will he draw Democrats and Independents over the line? Will he draw minorities over the line? That’s why I tend to go with Trump vs. the others. I want the one who is most likely going to stop Hillary and the DC Cabal. Sorry, the gravitas needed to win isn’t with the others, its with Trump. Do you really think that the WP, NYT ABC want Cruz to win in the general? Get real! The Media is still telling us to elect the candidate that is most likely to loose.

Republican presidential candidate Sen. Ted Cruz (R-TX) has cancelled his visit to Mississippi, according to state Sen. Chris McDaniel.
“Unfortunately, I just received a call from the national campaign chairman,” McDaniel wrote on his Facebook page. “The event at JCJC has been cancelled. Ted Cruz will not be in Mississippi tomorrow, as he evidently does not feel well.

In the wake of Super Tuesday and Saturday’s contests, Donald Trump, Ted Cruz and Marco Rubio’s national numbers have remained relatively stable, though Cruz has moved into second place heading into a very significant period of the primary season. These results are according to the latest from the NBC News| SurveyMonkey Weekly Election Tracking Poll of 21,996 adults aged 18 and over including 19,051 who say they are registered to vote.
Though 2012 Republican presidential nominee Mitt Romney publicly called on conservative voters to buck the current GOP front-runner, new national numbers indicate that more Republican and Republican-leaning voters than ever think Trump will win the GOP nomination. In the first week of the NBC News|SurveyMonkey Election tracking poll in late December, just half of Republican and Republican-leaning voters thought Trump would be the eventual nominee. In our latest week of polling, a full three-quarters now say they think he will win the nomination.
Over the past week, several prominent members of the GOP establishment community as well as other Republican candidates in the race have argued that many in the party have a very unfavorable view of Trump. While it is clear that Trump is viewed unfavorably by a large portion of the party elite, the more important question is what the rank and file think. We empirically analyzed this by asking respondents how they view the top three candidates in our poll.
Among all Republican and Republican-leaning voters nationally, the favorability ratings of the current three front-runners—Trump, Cruz and Rubio—are all above 50 percent. Rubio is viewed favorably by 62 percent of Republican and Republican-leaning voters; Cruz and Trump are tied with a 58 percent favorability rating.

If Rubio and Kasich got out of the race we would have a much clearer picture.

At least I know that Trump will fight, and can withstand the assaults better when the primary is over, and can stat to take aim at Hillary.
Cruz will go up in flames like rice paper after 10 days. You likely wont hear one shot at Hillary from him in the media.
It will be like Dole 96 all over again.
Trump is so unpopular with GOP voters...but he garners the most votes and has won the most primary contests.
