First on CNN: Team Romney explores blocking Trump at RNC

Mitt Romney has instructed his closest advisers to explore the possibility of stopping Donald Trump at the Republican National Convention, a source close to Romney's inner circle says.

The 2012 GOP nominee's advisers are examining what a fight at the convention might look like and what rules might need revising.

"It sounds like the plan is to lock the convention," said the source.

Romney is focused on suppressing Trump's delegate count to prevent him from accumulating the 1,237 delegates he needs to secure the nomination.

But implicit in Romney's request to his team to explore the possibility of a convention fight is his willingness to step in and carry the party's banner into the fall general election as the Republican nominee. Another name these sources mentioned was House Speaker Paul Ryan, Romney's running mate in 2012.

Romney wants to be crowned the nominee in a brokered convention.

A vote for Cruz is a vote for a brokered convention.

A vote for Cruz is a vote for Romney.

they now overtly campaign as the party of national socialism, period.

I think the brand of socialism that the Democrats espouse now is more of a global socialism than a national one. They want the wealth of the US to be spread to the world and they want to world to tell us what to do. And those who want America to remain uniquely American, they want dead.

It's quite different from the national socialism of Hitler and Mussolini.

I’ve seen that picture before, but never noticed that Rubio is the only one drinking anything.

What is it with him chugging all that water?

.. I talked to a GOP-E type this morning; they think Paul Ryan would be a good “compromise” candidate at the convention....

What will it take for GOPe / RINO to realize they are the problem... Compromise? Never. Ever.

I am a Cruz backer. The stupidity of that statement is ridiculous.

As I stated before I read you post this will cause more people to back Trump and he will win with an even bigger margin just to make sure the GOPe does not get their way.

I would not because of being pro-lifer who never votes anything but life(Trump sure sucked on that this week)..... but many will. Cruz backers are much more anti-establishment than Trump voters because of real stances on issues not hoping you know what a candidate stands for.

Romney just ensured a cake walk the rest of the way for Trump.

“Interesting. Will the Cruz backers on FR support this if it means undermining the will of the electorate/delegates?”

If Cruz was smart AND actually cared for our country’s future more than for himself, he’d figure this stuff out, and also figure out he’s being played a patsy, and he’d go on the debate tonight and announce he’s dropping out, go over and shake Donald Trump’s hand, and offer to serve in any position in Trump’s government Donald chooses, turn to the TV cameras and ask his supporters to vote for Trump and that together, Trump and Cruz will take on and destroy the GOPe establishment and turn the party back over to the people.

Absent this, Cruz simply becomes another one of “them”.

That loser Romney is in lala land. He basically embarrassed himself and the GOPe today. Even the Fox pundits were abandoning Mitt.

Is Romney mentally ill? Delusional? Have a messianic complex? Surrounded by bad ambitious advisors?
He has ample opportunity to inspire people to vote for him to be POTUS and failed. Miserably. Rick Santorum wiped the floor with him until he ran out of money.

He is dull and stiff and lacks any qualities that promote empathy with the 99%

The GOPe would rather lose to a Dem than to a Conservative. Tells you who they feel that they have more in common with.

That’s why Trump is doing as well as he is, at least in part. The base is tired of being used and taken for granted by the establishment types, and being fed an endless stream of mushy centrists who don’t seem to actually stand for anything much beyond ‘it’s my turn’.

It’s time for some really big changes in the leadership of the GOP. Either that, or we end up with a new party, and they can finish running the burned out hulk of the GOP into the ground.

Trotting out a losing candidate to go on TV and badmouth the guy who’s soaring in the polls under the (R) banner is the worst thing they could have done for themselves.

“Who are these elitists to overturn the will of the voters?”

Exactly. This is a war with the average Joe against the power brokers in Washington. Just another reason I am voting for Trump.

the bletway types appear to be counting on the MSM to pull off a mass hypnosis jedi mind trick, by shutting off coverage of trump after a presumed to fail first ballot bid. Chutzpah?! Need more popcorn, plus bbq steaks and lawn chairs :-)

No...it is not.

A vote for Cruz is a vote for Cruz.

I do not countenance people trying to scare me, or anyone else, into not following their own convictions and voting accordingly.

That’s the process...lets go through it..

Romney was trying to corrupt that.

At this point, it is clear that Trump is ginning up huge support and is likely to win. If he wins the nomination, I will support him 100%.

Until Cruz either wins it himself, or drops out, I am supporting him.
