Cruz has better favorables than Trump and does better against Hillary than Trump in all polls. You can have an opinion that Trump is more likable than Cruz, but the actual, factual surveys we have say otherwise.

This claim is useless without citations.

Just what Levin and Rush says. They have no concept of electoral politics and use opinion polls to make themselves feel better. It is not 1984 or 1988, the latest point in time that the electoral map would give a bible thumping (C)onservative a fair shake.

The election is decided state by purple state primarily in those last few, a mere dozen swing states: OH, PA, NC, IN, FL, IA, VA, MI, WI, NV, NM, CO. The bulk of the map is already decided against us, 38 "blue" versus "red" states plus DC, and it ain't pretty ( and there is a small chance Trump might flip a couple of "blue" ones back to purple, but God forbid if Cruz actually lost a couple of "red" ones ).

The more conservative ticket McCain/Palin lost all 12 of those states, the squishier GOPe ticket of Romney/Ryan only took 2 ( NC and IN ), so the evidence is not in our favor philosophically. Each day that elapses the population gets more anti-Conservative, more pro-Welfare, more pro-Handout, and has been doing so ever since 1965 as we die off and replacement Americans are naturalized from the 3rd world. So do you actually believe that Cruz has the slightest chance to win any of OH, PA, NC, IN, FL, IA, VA, MI, WI, NV, NM, CO. Which ones? And why would they?

The only way to win now is to thread a needle through them and even Trump will have a difficult task due to the lopsided electoral map. Cruz can't even beat Trump in primaries where the voters are mostly (R) and (C). In November the door gets opened to (D) and (L). Iowa will have long forgotten his name. Cruz just proclaimed that he himself wins the "closed" states and Trump wins the "open" ones. He is literally admitting he will get clobbered in the general right to your face.

The single most valuable commodity is getting crossover (D) votes, those who voted for Dumbo in 2008 and 2012. This is because they are twice as important as you or I since their vote means (R)+1 and (D)-1 for net 2, and that is how 52-48 or 54-46 swing states get put back into the win column. Trump is making a big play for (D) votes, which are needed whether we like it or not. Why would they ever vote for Cruz when he continually describes Trump as a (D)emocrat. Duh. That is like a campaign ad for the purple states.
