>>People on welfare programs for their health care dont have to pay co-pays. Nice, huh?<<
That’s not entirely true. Some states do demand that people with medicaid pay a copay on their meds. I have to also.
Many low income people with medicare still have to pay 20% of their hospital bills along with a monthly premium over $100 per month which is murder on an $900 per month income, or less. And not all meds are covered, either.
It’s not like elderly and disabled can just run right out there and get a job to cover this stuff. Some can, many can’t. And getting hired is yet another hurdle.
And furthermore, the state owns your house to pay back medicaid when you die.

Many do not know that the govt. can recapture the payments by taking assets after the death of the Medicaid recipient.
That, and more. They'll wring every cent out of you. It's one reason I'm struggling to keep my parents off Medicaid. The retirement homes that accept Medicaid call often, trying to get me to get my parents to sign up...

And there’s a problem with that?
This year my Kaiser Permanente went up $14 per month, but my SS stayed the same. So that’s $168 I have to get from somewhere. Since I rarely drive lower gas costs only save me about $30 a year. I only need one older med that has stayed the same, but I feel sorry for the poor folks who are subsidizing pharmaceutical CEOs making $20,000,000 and more. Last I heard the profit margin for drug companies was around 20% whereas most other commercial ventures have profit margins of 3 to 7%. As to $3 to $5 copays, what about the $3 to $5 hospital charges for an aspirin.
