I’ve heard *many* Cruz supporters on the board glow about how Cruz is the ‘only principled conservative in Congress’ because of his shutting down the gov’t stunts.
I’m an army wife. Other than my family, 90% of my social circle are military, ex-military, and contractors. Many wives of active duty are DOD civilian employees.
When Cruz shut down the gov’t *they* were the ones who were hurt. My daily FB page turned to terror and rage at Cruz and the GOP. Fear about losing their homes because they couldn’t pay their mortgages. Choking fear and anger over the injustice of it all.
In their eyes, this gave the entire GOP a big black eye.
And these are hawkish, military-loving, vet-loving, hard-core conservatives. They couldn’t understand why *they* were being punished for the failures of Congress.
Cruz showed ZERO wisdom with that play. Even today, there’s a lingering fear every fall that it’s going to happen again and paranoid FB posts start to fly toward the end of the fiscal year.
This is the main reason that I’ve never had Cruz as my 1st pick. Politics requires some finesse. Cruz proved that he’s a hammer and he sees every problem as a nail. Rank stubbornness without thought or measure is not a virtue.
Yes. I fear how much he’ll allow the American people to suffer in the name of ‘conservative principles’.
