semi-open - voters can declare their party at the polls. They can change next election if they want so it’s like a temporary party affiliation.

You must have I’d to vote in TX. There is no party affiliation on voter card. When voting primary, they ask if you want republican or democrat ballot. So to answer your question, you can cross over if you want.
