I hope the sailor is someplace with “sand so white, and sea so blue, no mortal place at all.”

He’s just a tad dehydrated, is all. The photo depicts him in a poor light.

A can of lager will iron that out right quick.

His poignnant message to his late wife must have been written after he’d been aware that she’d died (someone noted above that his last port of call on record was in 2012). He probably died in the S Pacific in a nice quiet spot, and finally bobbed over into the westerly current (the one Thor H and the boys rode on their Kon-Tiki raft).

.....And the rest of the story....

We're from the government and we're here to help you.

Seems as if the USCG was notified on January 31, it was *rediscovered* February 25 by the Philipinno fishermen

"Clipper Race Director Justin Taylor also notified the German Embassy in London, who informed the German Police and Coast Guard. They were then able to trace the sailor’s next of kin via the boat registration details provided by the team.

After liaising with the US Coast Guard in Guam, the team was instructed to carry on racing as it could provide no further assistance and USCG Guam took over the investigation."

I believe, in military parlance, it's called a SNAFU

Round-the-world solo sailing is a lot of fun until someone gets hurt. ;’)

The sailors that participate in these events know full well the dangers.

I don’t know if *they* have a death-wish, or not....but there is something that makes me different than them.

Let’s ask Steve Fossett. :)
