Caesar's commentaries on the Gallic Wars are a model of soldierly precision with an occasional clever snipe at his Gallic enemies. His Latin is plain and a lot of fun to read due to his avoidance of rhetorical excess.

I had him in 3rd year Latin.

The De Bello Gallic is an awesome book. We took a trip to Europe with our youngest son and we retraced Cesar’steps in the conquest of Gaul. My son was in the backseat and devoured the book. Great experience for my 15 year old son.
