Nationalism.

Hegelian dialectic in action. The R/D political divide has merged and the new antithesis is emerging. Right now it is a choice between Sander border line Marxist ideology and Trumps Nationalist ideology. I suspect both will be rejected before a new antithesis emerges too the Globalist thesis. Interesting times but I will not live to see the end. This will go on for decades. The old order may hang on for a few elections but it is on its death bed.

But take heart fearful ones. Trumps is not expansionist Nationalism as is normally thought of in the historical context, it is more along the Chinese model, a nationalism that that looks inward, not externally

I agree with much of what you say. But the way dialectic works is that the two sides will merge into their common kernel, and a new antithesis will emerge.

The kernel that Sanders and Trump have in common is Statism, and the new antithesis will be Individualism. I too do not expect to live long enough to see the resolution of this.

“the Chinese model, a nationalism that that looks inward, not externally”

And that is why the Spratleys are such a paradise of love and peace and brotherhood.

The thesis (status quo) and the antithesis (Trump) will lead to the new thing, the synthesis.

That’s your dialectic in action. There’s no dialectic without a synthesis, and that is missing from your calculus.
