It hasn't gotten good reviews on Amazon. Almost all of the complaints have been about how poorly-written it is. And how the author Chuck Wendig inserted way too many Earth references and idioms.
Wendig though has not accepted that and has opted to accuse his detractors of hatred and homophobia.
From his blog a few months ago:
And if youre upset because I put gay characters and a gay protagonist in the book, I got nothing for you. Sorry, you squawking saurian meteors coming. And its a fabulously gay Nyan Cat meteor with a rainbow trailing behind it and your mode of thought will be extinct. Youre not the Rebel Alliance. Youre not the good guys. Youre the fucking Empire, man. Youre the shitty, oppressive, totalitarian Empire. If you can imagine a world where Luke Skywalker would be irritated that there were gay people around him, you completely missed the point of Star Wars. Its like trying to picture Jesus kicking lepers in the throat instead of curing them. Stop being the Empire. Join the Rebel Alliance. We have love and inclusion and great music and cute droids.BTW, I've read the book. It was the worst Star Wars novel I've ever read, even ignoring the gayness.
There’s a military writer named Karen Traviss who wrote Republic Commandos books and ended up in a huge flame war with some Star Wars readers for reasons I forget. Anyway, after I stopped reading, she gave one of the (male) Commandos a husband.
I take it the author is homosexual. I didn’t realize homosexuals think about sex every existing moment...until 60 or so.
Nyan Cat is not homosexual.
"Squawking saurians"?
