Trump wants to repeal Obamacare and go back to private insurance with nationwide competition and no individual mandate. But he does want to mandate that pre-existing conditions are covered by insurance companies. Don’t know how that would work, unless there was some form of industry wide high risk pool. He also wants some form of coverage for indigents. Probably government subsidized. Also don’t know how that would work out.

Those things you list are contradictory.

If you have to be taken with preexisting conditions and if you don’t mandate buying insurance no one will buy it for catastrophic conditions. Why would you?

Trump says those “indigents” that the “government’s gonna pay for” are 25% of the people.

And all of the above is just being lost in the trees without seeing the forest.

The bottom line is the federal government has no business dictating our health care at much of any level. Those things not enumerated in the constitution as federal jurisdiction are left to the states. This is entirely a state issue and not a one size fits all federal issue.
