Trump, who has been audited yearly for a decade or more, I would suspect his accts make sure EVERYTHING is perfect, each and every page, each and every time.
Why would they not, if they KNOW they will be audited, again.
Have you been audited every year since then? I was audited about 20 years ago. Every crevice, and they found that they owed me money and wrote me a small check. (I had made an error that hurt me) I've never been audited since then.

So there is no logical reason why Trump can’t release his tax records while being audited. That’s just a very convenient, albeit unconvincing, excuse and dodge.
The problem is that some of the tax code is so arcane that 10 different accountants would likely come up with 10 different return totals, for a return much(!) less complex than Trump’s. So might 10 different IRS agents, for that matter.
On one question alone, some years back, I got 3 different answers from the IRS — I finally went with the interpretation a “supervisor” 2 levels up (from my 1st call) gave me, and even then I wasn’t sure she was correct.
I’m glad, sometimes, that I’m much too small a target to be much of a target!
