Apple has helped the government over 70 times before.
I did not know that. Was there a way for Apple to give the FBI what they needed without giving them the "combination to the safe" as others have described the FBI demands?

I am sure Apple could find a way that would get the information and not damage their product. The FBI has raised this issue of encryption of these devices because it affects their monitoring of the terrorist threat. IMO they used this clear cut case to pressure Apple in the public forum knowing that the public would side with the FBI.
