I imagine that Texans had formed their opinions of Cruz independently of any messaging by the media, the Trump campaign or the Cruz campaign, for that matter. He’s their senator, after all. They’re either happy with him, or they’re not.

When I was happy with Cruz, I assumed he was a true Texan. Low and behold, he has been a dual citizen of U.S. and Canada all the while he has been a senator. If we had known that he never would have been elected.
