Actually I could see him cutting waste effectively. I'm not blind to Trumps talents. But his history leads me to believe he'll also build new programs and expand the mandate of existing programs. He's a "doer" - some people think that's a positive and it is in private practice. But it's a nightmare characteristic in a government leader, at least from a conservative perspective.

He will look at every perceived problem as something the Trump government should solve. I don't welcome more government power and control in my life. Even if you believe Trump would make only great decisions and run all these programs effectively, one day he will be gone and the greatly expanded government will still be running our lives under President George P or President Chelsea.

I agree the limitations on government need to be rebuilt. They have been eroding for a long time and scholarly conservative leaders are desperately needed to repair the damage.

I think politicians and activist judges have long been chipping away at the the limitations that were intended to constrain them. They do it to justify and accommodate their liberal ideas of social justice - wealth redistribution and a misguided ideal of fairness and equality. I think some of them also do it to enrich themselves along the way.

I just think the first step is to get the liberals out of power return some sanity to the economic and foreign policy. The conservative movement has so far failed at this - even Reagan. Think of it as a war time president, hopefully to be followed by peace time presidents who will address the longer term issue of limited government.
