Try thinking of it this way. If every college, university, and technical program turned out just 10 qualified, entry-level IT people per year, how many would that be?

Now, explain to me how there is a shortage of qualified, American workers for all these positions out there......

These companies are using H1B's for cost reduction -- period. Don't believe the lie.

Right on!

Not only that, they are exporting these skills back to their home countries, which is just making this a positive feedback for demand of H1Bs

We own a business that proves multi-level IT support for small and medium businesses. For the most part college graduates from IT programs have knowledge but no skills. They are particularly lacking in work ethic, people skills, and problem solving skills. Graduates of technical programs are some better. They will have some skills in the particular field for which they trained and are typically interested in succeeding at work. People skills and problem solving skills are in short supply.

These young people need a lot of seasoning before they can be classed as “skilled” IT workers in any sense if the word.

That said, companies do pass over competent American workers for H1B visa workers. I am self-employed because I was a victim of just such a move by a large American company. They hired an Indian company and laid off all the IT workers over 50. The cost savings made the bottom line look great for a couple of quarters and the CEO got his bonus. Then it fell apart and they were desperately trying to hire people the had laid off as high paid consultants to rescue them. American companies are very short-sighted in more than just H1B use about the future of employees for their businesses.
