I’m hearing “brokered convention”. I don’t know what this is - if it’s not too much trouble, can someone tell me what this means, in a nutshell?
Delegates only bound to vote once for whoever won them. After that they are free to vote for RI Os
I just came across this on another thread and thought it good to save:
If Republicans head to Cleveland with no candidate securing a majority of delegates (every political pundit’s daydream), and a brokered convention comes to fruition,
The Party’s Rule 40 states:
(b) Each candidate for nomination for President of the United States and Vice President of the United States shall demonstrate the support of a majority of the delegates from each of eight (8) or more states, severally, prior to the presentation of the name of that candidate for nomination
If Trump wins 8 or more “winner take all” states, and no other candidate has passed the 8-state threshold, then Trump may show up at the convention as the ONLY candidate who is allowed to be voted on in the first round.
