My favorites are the ones who think “conservative” is a magic incantation that must be obeyed.

They don’t realize the GOP has turned that word into a bad joke.

Agreed. The word “conservative” has no meaning any more. Sort of like “gay”.

That is why you have to qualify what kind of conservative you are. Constitutional Conservatives have the most street cred.

“The word ‘conservative’ has no meaning any more. Sort of like “gay”.”

George Orwell wrote about how the word “fascist” lost all meaning during the Spanish civil war because it was used by just about everyone (he know, socialists and anarchists) to describe anything that was unpleasant: “That fascist waiter is sure taking his time ..”
Today it may as well have the Amish meaning of “plain”: “Ja, dat Karl he is plain. And steady.”

As you say, the problem is, the word conservative has been degraded to the point where it pretty much means, “not liberal or progressive’” so it doesn’t really work as a term anymore. It could describe anything or anyone from immigration to Lindsay Graham.

I’m thinking of trying to revive the term “fascist”. It’s got snap, it grabs people’s attention, and the sharp, even scary, sassy & classy uniforms were real babe magnets.
