the Cruz hate is deep here on FR, and it boggles my mind.
It’s because he is a jerk.
It’s not the candidate. It’s the candidates supporters on FR.
As a Cruz supporter, I have to admit that some of our unhinged partisans brought a lot of that on.
Just because many of us have Trump as first choice doesn’t mean we hate Cruz, or wouldn’t vote for him as second choice.
I think there are more Trump haters amongst the Cruz people (ie, would stay home rather than vote in the general for Trump).

I was taught that you “hate” someone, you’d better have good reason. I don’t know Cruz personally so how could I hate him? But we all have preferences and sometimes it sounds like hatred when it’s really an expression of preference, ridicule, sarcasm, and good old fashioned anonymous trolling.
I would happily vote for Cruz if he is the nominee just as I voted for Romney and McCain. As the famed team of Jagger and Richards put it “you can’t always get what you want”. I don’t want Cruz, but I would take him over anyone else but Trump.
Cruz is merely (at the moment) the leading threat to Trump. If someone else were running #2, he would be getting the two minute hate from Team Trump. This is the way The Donald operates. What is appalling is that so many Trump supporters go in for it so enthusiastically.
Do you remember when Trump started leading in the polls that every positive thread appended Cruz to Trump thusly Trump/Cruz? When that did nothing to help Cruz the started attacking Trump in some of the most vile ways, they have reaped what they have sown.
