A single mother, abandoned by her husband, who makes good and teaches her children well is a heroine in my eyes. It’s the ones that fail that test who worry me.

A very small number do the right thing. Most fall into the the rat trap. The rats take advantage of this by enacting programs that make them comfortably dependent and they truly believe they are owed this.

My old country mother was a widow so some people today would call her a single mother but being a southern European woman she would certainly take umbrage with that. Women like my mother valued her honor.
