After President Barack Obama scolded Republicans for vowing to block whomever he nominates to fill the vacancy in the Supreme Court caused by the death of Justice Antonin Scalia, some Republicans called him out for being a hypocrite because he tried to filibuster Justice Samuel Alito's nomination in 2006.
Now the White House is saying that the president "regrets" that decision, but still maintains that the Republican opposition is somehow different and unprecedented. Via The Hill:
âThat is an approach the president regrets,â White House press secretary Josh Earnest said.
Obama and the Democratic senators who joined him in filibustering Alito âshould have been in the position where they were making a public caseâ against the merits of his nomination to the high court instead, Earnest said. âThey shouldnât have looked for a way to just throw sand in the gears of the process," he added.
As a senator from Illinois, Obama and 23 other senators attempted to stage a filibuster to block a confirmation vote on Alito, one of former President George W. Bushâs picks to serve on the bench. The filibuster bid failed and Alito was confirmed.
Earnest argued the GOP is going further than the 2006 Democrats did by pledging to not consider any nominee the president puts forward. âThese are two different things,â he said. According to Earnest, Obamaâs decision to filibuster was âbased on substanceâ while the GOPâs opposition to any Obama nominee is "purely political."
CNN chief national correspondent John King predicted that if President Barack Obama canât get his Supreme Court nominee through the Senate, heâll argue âthat Republicans blocked him because heâs the first African-American president, and they didnât give it to him because of his raceâ on Tuesdayâs broadcast of âAC360.â
Of course, Obama only does this because he knows it makes Republicans collapse into a quivering pile of jelly.
When they filibuster, they should read everything and anything Obama said about filibustering Alito on the Senate floor.
Everything about Obama is one big regret!
Did Obama ever vote for something or did vote against everything ?
And his idea of filibustering was particularly frivolous when it was one conservative being replaced by another on the court and would not change the makeup of the court. This replacement is serious business and will change the court from 5-4 conservative to 5-4 liberal. Nope, Barack, not happening, go fly a kite or hit a few golfballs.
Obama is well known for “evolving” on issues [HA HA HA ]
This may be the first he’s ever had to be responsible for his actions. It sounds like a “teachable moment”.
FUBU
Reap what you sew scumleech.
He must have a ton of splinters in his Butt from all the Fence Sitting
Obama and Schumer need to be quiet and sit down! All one sees with these two slimy liberal scumbags are all the flys winging in and out of their mouths.
The Republicans should filibuster it, then claim to regret it a decade from now. Play him at his own game. I doubt they’ll do it. But that’s what I’d do.
Too late A$$hole!
How does this race horse blank make any sense? He successfully placed two other nominees on the Supreme Court. So an attempt to block a 3rd is due to racism??? Wouldn’t the GOP have tried to block the first two if there was racial animus here????
Hold his tootsies to the tiki torch!!!!!!
LOL!!
Saw an article quoting sCHUMer(cfe) saying something to the effect,
“Don’t dare use my past opposition to SC appointees against me”
Don’t do as I do, do as I say!
I don’t care to hear democrats whine about having to eat the leftover sh*t casserole Ted Kennedy baked for Robert Bork 30 years ago. They cooked this mess, now they get to eat it, too..
Republicans blocked him because heââ¬â¢s the first African-American president.
CNN still race baiting and still fails to see Obama’s poor judgment and stupidity liberals are now in quicksand and don’t know it
In politics, it always depends on who’s ox is gored...or is that who’s Gore is oxed???
Do as I say, not as I do. The Emperor has spoken.
Ding, ding, ding - we have a thread winnah!
