I'll bet if any candidate up their besides your messiah had said he hated the concept of guns, you would use that as the very first talking point against him.
Instead, you don't believe in yourself, you believe in the power of somebody else to make you feel better about your life and future. When somebody you support "jumps the shark", you slither back into tribal mode and back your tribal king, because that's what belonging to a tribe or collective. Trump can shoot ten people in Time Square for fun, you would still support him.
