Cruz leads Hillary in the polls and Trump is behind Hillary.

Trump’s plans on trade would be a disaster for the economy. I agree that trade treaties passed by the establishment are bad because they serve the desires of Crony Capitalists. Trump has been a Crony capitalist his entire working life.

Ideally, I agree with the libertarian view of free trade held by many conservatives, which holds that retaliatory trade sanctions and protections against our trading partners only serve to punish us, in the form of higher prices on imported goods. I also know that a trade deficit is always offset by an equal surplus in the capital account, as the trading partner winds up holding US dollars, effectively forcing them to be invested in the US economy. As such, a trade deficit is not a true measure of whether we are being ripped off.

Having said that, this free market argument reminds me way too much of the liberal unilateral disarmament advocates who said disarmament is the right thing, so we should do it regardless of whether are enemies are disarming. Total insanity as any conservative would agree.

Then if that’s insane wouldn’t free trade (no tariffs, restrictions, import taxes or currency manipulations) also be total insanity if the trading partner was not reciprocating?
