Here's why Donald Trump keeps talking about suing Ted Cruz
Christian Science Monitor ^ | FEBRUARY 16, 2016 | Peter Grier

...

"He sues, most of all, to make headlines and to reinforce the notion that he is powerful," wrote Daily Beast reporter Olivia Nuzzi in an overview of his lawsuits last July.

...

His goal in this may not be paving the way for an actual bolt from the party so much as establishing a narrative about why he lost - if he loses, which is far from a sure thing. That’s what some right-leaning pundits suspect, in any case.

"Trump's image depends on him being seen as the consummate winner; if he loses to Cruz, he'll need to explain how that possibly could have happened. The only tolerable excuse is that he was cheated," writes Allahpundit...

Reuters: Feb 16, 2016 - Trump 40.8%; Cruz 16.9%; Carson 11.5%; Rubio 9.8%; Bush 8.0%; Kasich 7.1%

Indeed...it sure looks like Trump is losing. That last debate crushed him.

And there is the Trump-Trump University RICO case going to trial this summer. Trump has already had to pay just under $800,000 to the woman he sued for defamation in an anti-SLAAP case.

That’s nothing compared to what he is going to lose in his RICO trial. Since there are potentially thousands in the class action case, he could lose multiple millions because damages are trebled, plus attorney fees. You can bet his legal fees are going to be in the millions.

In fact, I could only find one case that Trump actually won. When it comes to litigation, Trump is one of the biggest losers. Absolutely no one is afraid of going to court against Trump. His narcissism and arrogance make him an ideal opponent.

“Cruz was the lead senator fighting the the lefties in the Senate...”

And that’s where he should stay.

They were not made under oath and constitute no legal authority of any kind. If questioned on the stand all Trump would have to say was that he thought Cruz was eligible at first glance but then looked into it and found that it was not the case

Well, I think it would make him look like a fool.

His answer would not be as simple as that either. He said Cruz was not eligible in February or March of 2015. Then for five or six months, he went into great depth about him being eligiible. Then in December, he said he was ineligible. Then after Iowa, he said he would still consider Cruz as VP, implying he is eligible. Now, he is apparently threatening Cruz with a lawsuit, if Cruz doesn't take some action he wants.

I think his public statements would have a lot to do with his public statements.

I'm no lawyer, but it sounds like SLAPP to me.

But I think Trump has no intention of going through with it.

Trump is experienced in defamation lawsuits and he has lost them all. No one is afraid of being sued by Trump.

He’s not going to sue because he knows he would lose.

We don’t know that. Seems to me half the country believes Cruz is a NBC and the other half don’t. There is much confusion. A lawsuit to settle this is probably in the best interest of this country. What is Cruz afraid of?

GO TRUMP!

To me, it doesn't matter why he's doing it.

If he REFUSES to follow through with his threat.........it shows me he is either knowingly LYING about Cruz not being a NBC.......

or he's just like Obama, who draws a red line in the sand and then runs away when the enemy crosses

Ted lies about as effortlessly as Bill Clinton. It’s amazing actually and you have to hat tip to him that he is able to lie like the Slickster. It’s a special talent, really reserved for lawyers and politicians...

And businessmen, apparently. Here is a tweet Trump just sent out, which says that Tom Coburn called Cruz "one of the most dishonest people in DC":

Note that Trump was re-tweeting Dan Scavino, who is one of Trump's senior advisors. Here is Scavino's tweet:

Note that Scavino's source is "forwardprogressives.com" (interesting source for a Republican front-runner, no?). Here is a screenshot of the source article:

Note that the line about Cruz being "one of the most dishonest people in DC" was not a quote from Tom Coburn. So, Trump (along with his senior people) took a hit piece about Cruz published on a liberal rag website, attributed a nasty quote from that hit piece to Tom Coburn, and spread it around as though the "Highly respected Senator Tom Coburn said [it] about Cruz."

And he's calling Cruz dishonest?

obama only has one American citizen parent.

So what? You are mixing oranges and apples. Obama was supposedly born on US soil. Cruz is a natural born Canadian and Cuban citizen and a mere citizen of the U.S.

Ok, no problem. Libel suits don’t work against politicians anyway. They all lie and they’re protected by laws written by politicians.

And you spent invaluable time that you will never get back again to read court transcripts of a case in where Donald Trump sued a reporter who claimed he wasn’t as wealthy as he was?

it only takes a couple minutes. The question is, why haven't you? People want him to be president, but they want him to be completely unvetted like Obama.

You'd learn a lot about Trump if you read anything beyond what the mainstream media spoonfeeds you.
