My first posts on Free Republic were against the invasion of Iraq. I was bashed mercilessly here over and over for trying to make a simple point.
Husain was secular, the 9-11 attacks were religious. We had just embarked on a war in Afghanistan and history advised caution in the regard. My thoughts were that Husain was currently in check and the options in that region are tinpot dictators or religious fanatics. I was stating the case for holding off on Iraq.
I got flamed by everyone. EVERYONE!!!
But I will say that I bought the whole Bush plan Hook-Line-and-Sinker.
I was a true believer, and I think this is the root of my sense of betrayal and anger at the whole establishment. All it has done since then is grow, grow, grow.
I honestly don't know if I owe you an apology for those bygone days, but if I do, I am sorry.
You probably got flamed by me, too.
But, for us years later to pretend that only the left objected to Iraq is contrary to the evidence.
And saying that Bush doctored the data was already being said by Buchanen and others ON THE RIGHT at the outset of the war.

The article is just a reminder of what was being said.
That said, I was against nation building, but for deposing Saddam and checking for his WMD capabilities. I always thought it was about terrorists with small quantities of WMDs and not about some terrorist bringing a missile or artillery system into the US.
