The fear is that he might appoint a Kennedy or a Souter. IKE appointed Brennan because his business buddies told him that though a Democrat he was pro-business. Turned out to be one of Ike's real regrets. A President has no control over a justice once he is appointed. Trump is simply NOT a conservative.

I have the same news for you that I have for many other posters on this thread: there is no perfect candidate. Every candidate, even Cruz, would make critical errors in office. Every Republican president in the past century since Eisenhower had justices turn left on him. Now that the leftists have packed the law schools with marxists and filled the federal judiciary with activists, the pipeline itself is corrupted and finding a reliably conservative justice will be difficult for ANY president, even Cruz. Look what happened with Roberts, whom Cruz admired, at least in part.

The biggest issue is that any Republican wins at all.

After that, the next biggest issue is that the economy and the debt are ready to collapse us, and must be addressed forcefully with knowledge. Trump forcefully and knowlegeably called out these difficult issues -- first before anyone else -- and has the skills to address them.

As for his SCOTUS picks, many posters are ranting that he knows "nothing" about the Constitution and blah blah blah -- failing to understand that he sees the role of Chief Executive properly, which is to develop a vision and plan and see that it gets executed by a competent team. SCOTUS appointments are an issue where he would absolutely take advice from deeply knowlegeable team members, and it would greatly surprise me if he did not also ask Ted Cruz to be involved in the selection process.

I am not thrilled by the vision that Trump offers. I do not fault him for talking loudly about the wall, or making Mexico may for it. That is only hyperbole that make it clear that he intended to hold Mexico to account for its role in this mess. Mexico has had corrupt government since, say the day it declared independence of Spain. Potentially one of the richest countries in the world, it has funneled almost all its wealth into the hands of politicians and oligarchs (like Slim, for instance.) it has shirked its duty to provide health, education and welfare for its peoples. It feeds off the money that the people who send money back home, Its policed force has been corrupted by another stream of income from Notre America, the drug trade. It cannot prove for the security that is its first responsibility. And we cannot doubt that the United States Government has not been complicit in all this.

Nor do I take issue with Trump call radically to limit the immigration of Muslims into the United States. Since 9/11 the US Government has been trying sell us the idea that Islam is a religion of peace, and to talk about a war on terror when its is radical islam, a movement widespread in the Islamic world that is the seedbed of all that is happening. Nor should be ignore the radical differences between Muslim and Christian peoples. Latino immigrants do not bring good political ideas into this country but as Christians people they do not bring a plague of cultural practices that we ought to abhor and a practical incomprehension of the fundamental ideas of liberal democracy.

But, beyond this, Trump does grasp the importance of examining the social decadence that has helped bring us to where we are today. His defense of Planned Parenthood might seem small potatoes to some, but In my world view, its shows his inability to grasp that the sexual revolution which we have help spread around the world is leading the death of our society. White Americans, like white Europeans, have stopped having children, and it was the dearth of American children that created a demand for foreign immigration that has become so great as to swamp our a society. Further, it has educated the Millenials in a worldview that is counter to their long term interests. They have lost respect for the civilization into which they were born. They have bought the lies of the left about the supposed superiority of social democracy as practiced in Europe. Where is the recognition that the wealth of Germany is based on the sixty years of protection we gave the Germans, allowing them to prosper without having the need of a large and costly military? We hear about Sweden, forgetting that Sweden grew rich during WWII by supply Nazi Germany with iron and øther resources. Trump needs to expand his vision beyond the narrow horizons of NYC, who actually think that those who gather at Davos every year for anything more than a gated community,I think he is too old, too much a part of that crowd to do that.
