I've never understood why people object to multiple postings, unless the postings are very close together. Once a post gets bumped down to the third or fourth page, most people wouldn't know about it, so I see no problem in a story being occasionally re-posted for the benefit of people who weren't on-line when it was originally posted.

The reason for a single thread is so that all the discussion (which sometimes can be epic) doesn't get lost when somebody posts the same thread again. I've had to repeat my of my comments on duplicate threads just so they don't get lost.
This seems to be a trait of some campaign spammers.
