In NM, it’s state law to preform autopsy when a body is found alone...I guess it’s not so in Texas.

...from the state’s website:
“In the state of New Mexico, when a person’s death is unexpected and the cause of death in not immediately known...it will be investigated by the Office of the Medical Investigator. New Mexico has a statewide medical examiner system, with specially trained investigators in every community. Many in the state refer to the Office as the OMI.”

Same in NY, if the body is found alone an autopsy is mandatory.

I thought it IS so in Texas, just like NM. That’s been my experience, anyway. If a body is found alone, it’s an automatic autopsy no matter what the family wants.

Maybe the laws changed recently.

Yeah, most states do have that law .. it’s an automatic autopsy if the person died alone.

I too am surprised that TX would not have that law. And, if it was law, the family would have no say in the matter.

With no autopsy; there will always be a doubt in my mind.
