<<Soon, someone will stop by and explain why 200 million of us have to pay higher taxes to save 1400 jobs.<<

No jobs, no manufacturing, no weapons made here eventually = no country.
Of maybe you are faked out by the games that are played where whole assemblies of cars for example are imported for final assembly here.
Or maybe you think the almost $1 trillion annual trade deficit can go on forever . . . just keep running up the credit card.
Or maybe you think the $19T in debt can be paid back without jobs and a ton of growth.
Sheesh! I know it has become an article of faith that tariffs are bad . . . but I respectfully request that people take another look at that position.
BTW, tariffs WERE NOT the cause of the Great Depression, even if Reagan said something to that effect. As I have pointed out here before, he had other things on his mind, like the Evil Empire. Also, trade was not a problem in his day. The endemic trade deficits had just begun, and it may not have been clear back in the 1980s that they would only grow and grow.
Executive summary: if you truly are worried about "no country," then worry about how much our politicians are spending, not about how much we are spending on consumer goods.
