Bush has been in office for 8 months. It takes a year or more to get an administration filled staffed with political appointees.Add to this that Bush had lost a full month because of the election controversy. Rumsfeld is a hard charger but he was still trying to gain control of the Pentagon. If you think that was a snall matter, it took Nixon two years to figure out that the Air Force and Navy were ly ing about the effectiveness of their air attacks. And add this: Butterfield, the guy who told about the tapes, may have been a plant. An ex-naval intelligence officer.
I agree with all you said. I was a Bush supporter (mostly. expansion of government was a no no). All of those things happened, however that does not negate the incident happened on his watch. Further, 19 Saudi nationals were involved in the action. We should have distanced ourselves from them. There is no way that the Royal Family was unaware of the plot.

How long did it take to create, house, staff, fund, etc. an entirely new (Homeland Security) bureaucracy?...
BTW just the title, "Homeland Security" makes me want to gag.

RobbyS, thank you very much! I have been wondering about all these grandiose plans for the first day in office. If you’ve ever been in a new job and a new office, there is a lot of “stuff” you have to do to get it up and running. The “first one hundred days” makes more sense.
