So Cruz was technically an illegal between 74 and 86?
No. A four year old Canadian boy crossing into the USA with his USA mom wasn’t a big deal in 1974. No one cared. Then, once he was in the USA, he was still Canadian though 5 minutes at a county courthouse would have made him American from that day on. This step to formalize his citizenship wasn’t taken until he was around 17.
I am not against Cruz. He’s my second choice. But I wish he had been honest about this and gotten it fixed a year ago.
I could be a wonderful driver but until I get that piece of plastic, the driver’s license, I’m not a legal driver. Cruz was not officially American until he was 17, and this is sad news. The kid probably thought he was. It’s not his fault.
Good explanation
Thanks.

This is not something he could fix. One is either born here of citizen parents and is naturally born a US citizen because one cannot possibly be anything else or one is not.
It’s tragic that the best thing to happen to the US Senate in a generation is not eligible to be President, but he is not.

I totally agree that THE LATE FILING IS NOT TED’S FAULT.
My concern with Ted, is that he could have been more forthcoming and he claimed he did not know he had Canadian citizenship until 2013.
You can call it a lying by omission, that’s the thing bugging me here, not the lax attitude of his parents...he cannot control that.
Ref: “ Cruz was not officially American until he was 17, and this is sad news.”
You are incorrect.
In the eyes of the law and the Constitution, Cruz has officially been a natural born citizen since his birth. He did not obtain the official documents which he would need for his passport until 1986. (The laws/ legal policies on this have all been posted above.)
Your driver’s license analogy is misguided. Your argument is like saying his mother did not become his mother until she got his birth certificate.
No....Cruz was not officially American until he was 17, and this is sad news.
Now wait a minute...so is it yes or no?
