What has passed for charity in a state-dominated culture isn’t. It really is a golden shackle.
Actual charity as given and received for the sake of God isn’t enslavement at all — it is empowerment to pursue the purposes of God, which are always blessed in the end whatever trials they encounter on the way. People have mistaken being humbled for losing their freedom, and it is not so.
