George Washington did not have to campaign for the job. As for Trump and his high unfavorable rating, I see him doing nothing to repair the damage already done. Trump is being Trump. It is a yuge turn-on to his supporters. But it is also a constant reminder to his detractors of why they don't like him.
Repairing unfavorability is nearly impossible. The key element is with swaying undecided voters. Unfortunately for Trump, the number of undecideds is remarkably small. Sixty percent have already made up their minds that they do not like Trump. Compare that with only 37% for Cruz. Come November, who has a better chance at winning?

With God all things are possible.
If some new menace appears on the horizon and a sweeter Trump looks ready to address it, some old foes WILL change.

And especially what I say, if the event draws the typical Trump blunt talk whereas Cruz hems and haws over it.

And George Washington still had to be selected by a consensus of others. He has his own Dale Carnegie problem and he surmounted it.
