Donald Trump has now made clear that the thrust of his campaign will not be conservatism. It will instead be populism and nationalism.

“With Trump, they can stay on their playbook of “evil bigoted rich guy” versus “persecuted heroic woman.” It’s all about archetypes.”

I don’t buy it. That worked with Romney, but Trump is likable, already known, and refuses to apologize for being successful. He makes doing well and working hard cool again.

Look at Trump tower, if you need something in concrete - and glass. He produces tangible results, unlike politicians that just talk.

South Carolina like its neighbors, North Carolina and Georgia, as well as Virginia, has three distinct regions: the lowlands, the piedmont, and the mountains. The third is less significant in the Palmetto State. The lowlands extend to the Fall Line and take up a considerable portion of the state. This was plantation country, and the black population well exceeds national and state averages. The lowlands were settled a century before the piedmont and mountains. Many settlers were English, along with French Hughenots. There was a steady stream of people and commerce from the West Indies. Many of the old families formerly lived in the Bahamas or Bermuda. There was an hierarchical and traditional society, similar to Tidewater Virginia. Their political instincts are similar to the pre-World War II Northeastern WASP establishment and rural Yankees, economically conservative but socially moderate. The upstate is more Scots Irish and evangelical. This is where Bob Jones University is located. This is a Christian Right stronghold politically.

Imagine whatever makes you feel better. I have many left-leaning coworkers and family members. It’s the archetype that matters to them. Symbolism over substance. Trump is the bad guy they want to face. You should see their faces. It’s real.

Peace,

SR

“Imagine whatever makes you feel better. “

What a surprise. A Cruz supporter being condescending!

There is very little left to conserve. Conservatives lost it all.

Trump: You can take your conservative ideals and shove them. I am going to be popular.

Who declined to go to the debate, with their make-all-candidates-look-bad questions

If you call running away standing your ground, well, that explains a bunch right there.

Really? I didn’t see it that way. Sorry you did. I’m an old guy, and I just don’t expect folks to change their mind much based on facts. I’m very discouraged by the absence of real communication lately on FR. Let me rephrase, hopefully in a way you will approve. I realize you don’t buy that the left is salivating to run against Trump. If you have some way of assuring yourself that is not the case, I think you are missing important data. What can I do about that? We are just two anonymous posters failing to connect. But I’m telling you the truth. The lefties I know have a terrible view of Trump, not just for his policies, but for what he represents. He is the perfect caricature of everything bad they always believed about conservatives. It is real. I am authentically sorry you don’t believe it.

Peace,

SR

If it were not for Ted Cruz standing up and demanding the republicans attempt to stop Obama we wouldn’t even be having this debate!!!

However, with the mess this country is in and with the possibly irreversible damage being done to it, we need someone that WILL produce results ASAP.

Like (increasing the ethanol mandate and) making sure the EPA stays in business while making America great again? The same EPA that has done more to shut down, move offshore and bankrupt American industry than any other agency in history.

What are you looking for? Someone to be elected to office or a strategic bomber pilot?

Whatever is done will have to be done within the constraints of our Constitution, otherwise you will destroy the Republic to save it.

One voice in the Senate, especially when bucking the Democrats and the RINOs will only get so much done. That voice isn't going to necessarily inspire those others to jump off their hellbound gravy train, no matter whose voice it is. The voices that should be doing that are those at the polls where those others are elected.

Now, everyone may agree that so and so isn't much of a representative in Congress, but that SOB is MY representative and better than... and they reelect that sonofagun and this is how we got in the mess we are in.

A Senator is only 1% of the voice of that body, the President is the voice of the Executive branch.

Until we, the people clean house, things aren't going to change. We may start with the White House, and I'd want someone in there who can stand up for the Republic in spite of the Congress, not wheel and deal away our stuff and our rights so he can say he won.

He was among the very few that was trying....he was only one man against the establishment. He was doing it when Trump was raving over Obama and against so called assault rifles and numerous other conservative principles. I’ve stated before I will vote for Trump if he is the nominee but the complete remake of history an vitriol toward Ted Cruz by some on this forum is amazing.

If Cruz a Jedi would be, then do he must be able to prove.
Some call it "vitriol" to point out Ted's lack of accomplishments after 4 years in the Senate. Others call it skepticism that elevating him will empower him to walk the walk.

I didn’t say I didn’t believe it.

Lots of people have personal stories about friends, family, co-workers, neighbors and how they’ll vote. Unless it represents the majority opinion, it doesn’t really matter. And democrats aren’t likely to vote for a Republican anyway. Trump will likely gets lots of independents like me - Republicans disgusted with the party.

Then you think Reagan ran away from the talks with the Soviets.

I guess you don’t recognize a real man when you see one.

Then you think Reagan ran away from the talks with the Soviets.

Nope, Reagan faced down stern men with nukes.

Trump ran away from some ferocious wymn with microphones.

I have known a lot of real men who were not born with a silver spoon in an orifice who wouldn't run from some bitchy women.
