Here's a newsflash for you. Single-payer does not work in Canada or Scotland. Monopolies provide poorer service at higher cost than a fully competitive market. From Trump's words, he is trying to have it both ways. Yet these two ways are polar opposites.
Contrary to the BS that Trump is spouting, government doesn't give us more choices. A free market does. And it does so purely at the demand of the consumer - not because government tells them to do it. So anyone telling you that single payer works well is an enemy of the free market.
What does any of this have to do with Ted lying?
Even this guy working for his campaign calls him out on it;

Hood, why are you still going on about Single Payer when TRump says in this quote that it would not work for us.
It could have worked in a different age, which is the age you're talking about here.This sentence means Trump thinks single payer would have worked 15 years ago before the Obamacare fiasco but not now.
What I'd like to see is a private system without the artificial lines around every state.This sentence means Trump is proposing private insurance as we had before Obamacare but he would remove the artificial boundaries between stated so that any individual could choose from approximately 160 insurers in competition in the free market which would drastically reduce costs for all of us.
I have a big company with thousands and thousands of employees. And if I'm negotiating in New York or in New Jersey or in California, I have like one bidder. Nobody can bid. You know why? Because the insurance companies are making a fortune because they have control of the politicians, of course, with the exception of the politicians on this stage. But they have total control of the politicians. They're making a fortune. Get rid of the artificial lines and you will have yourself great plans.
This is Trump expounding on the previous sentence.
And then we have to take care of the people that can't take care of themselves. And I will do that through a different system.This is mentioning that Trump will take care of indigents to keep them from dying on the streets.
