What happened in NH is Cruz hardly made any real effort to win there on account of it being the least religious state in the country as well as the 5th most liberal. South Carolina on the other hand is just like Iowa in terms of % of evangelicals and very conservative voters.

Amount of money spent in NH GOP primaries:

Cruz $580 000
Trump $3.7 M
Rubio $18 M
Kasich $12M
Jeb Bush $26 M

Cruz barely broke sweat in NH and still beat Rubio and Jeb Bush who spent over THIRTY TO FIFTY TIMES as much money as he did.
Now watch Cruz do his thing in South Carolina.

You can rationalize it any way you want. Cruz put all his chips on Iowa. Trump didn't spend the time and money in Iowa and still came in a strong second. He learned a lesson from that loss and applied it to NH where he swamped the field.

Cruz will lose in SC. I will be interested to hear the excuses this time. Cruz is going to have a tough time fending off Rubio and Bush who are making a last stand effort here. All the big guns will be called into action on their behalf. The ads are non-stop. We will see if Dubya is a plus or a minus. How much will Tim Scott and Trey Gowdy help Rubio's efforts?
