It will be a small-scale rerun of the island hopping of the Pacific campaign of World War 2. This campaign will start with the air base on Mischief Reef, 250 km west of Palawan. This puts it in range of ATACMS missiles with a range of 300 km. The United States has possibly some 2,000 of these in stock. The amphibious attack on Mischief Reef will be associated with the suppression of the airfields on Subi Reef and Fiery Cross Reef. From Mischief Reef, it is then on to the airfield on Subi Reef and then all the other island bases can be rolled up. The Chinese Navy and air force will exhaust themselves in trying to protect these bases, which is a very good thing. Those Spratly bases are China's point, and moment, of weakness.
Some Chinese academics have crowed that China has already won the coming war because President Obama doesn't have the stomach for a major war, as demonstrated by his announcing red lines and then not enforcing them. But just as his penchant for drone attacks on jihadists is a surprising character quirk in an otherwise avowed dove, he did spend some formative years in Indonesia where anti-Chinese sentiment is strong.
As to why we have to fight China, good advice comes from people who have been fighting the Chinese for over one thousand years. As quoted in the Pentagon Papers, Ho Chi Minh said,"the white man is finished in Asia. But if the Chinese stay now, they will never leave. As for me, I prefer to smell French shit for five years, rather than Chinese shit for the rest of my life." Take that advice to heart - a smaller war now is better than a bigger one later.

Thanks bro.
What will really happen:
1. China will stop buying our debt. Interest rates will skyrocket and financial markets will start to collapse.
2. China will raise the prices of all the cheap junk they sell us and start withholding supply. Massive shortages will result in the U.S. There will be runs at the stores. Folks will not be able to fix things they own because all the replacement parts are made in China. Areas will literally start to go dark, because China makes all our light bulbs.
3. China will start restricting the Port of Los Angeles and other port and transportation facilities they now control in the United States. Commerce on the West Coast and to and from Asia will grind to a halt.
4. China will trigger all the virus and trojan programs they have installed in our electronic products the last 15 years. Automobiles and factories will stop functioning. The grid will go down and there will be widespread power shortages.
5. The U.S. will sue for peace. We will give Hawaii and California to China, as well as letting the Chinese take over Taiwan and South Korea.
This blog outlines an excellent strategy for a war with China:

5). Just Califonia ? Why not throw in a few cities like Portland Seattle and Vancouver ... Well they already have Vancouver.
Oh and Las Vegas
If we are talking conventional....it would hardly be an island hopping campaign against China .....
China is a mainland nation ...self-sustaining ...
Japan was an island nation not self-sustaining you could isolate...
. don’t find an island nation and a mainland nation the same way....
fight China will be far more like the invasion of Europe with Japan playing Britain....
except you probably have to fight just to get to Japan to get a staging point....
Then China would have the ability to absorbed a massive land invasion just like Russia’s land mass absorbed Germans
it would be a true intercontinental battle
And if we ar talking nuclear then its old fashioned MAD.. scenario like we had with the Russians during the Cold War
Actually, China is very dependent on foreign oil imports to keep things running in the military and civilian worlds. Interdiction of their oil supply outside of their territorial waters could be very effective.

we wouldn’t be talking about this if clinton hadn’t cemented the trade deals forcing manufacturers to china via walmart
they’ve been running a two-factory system since 1994, which has led to the deliberate draining of the US financial base.
thanks again, democrats.
They own at least 1/5th of mexico....wont have to swim...the number of chinese woman avail for call-up is 320 million.....thats just the girls....
Mexico won't like us giving away their territory without their prior approval (not that they could stand up to the Chinese either).
This brings into play the huge helping hand the Clinton administration gave to the Chinese ICBM upgrade by approving the sale of Loral delivery system technology in exchange for China’s laundered donation to the DNC back in the 1990s.
Every strategic force expert decried that deal as one that “advanced by decades” China’s missile capabilities. We may someday soon learn just how significant that advance truly was.
Macarthur wanted to use nukes.
God,what presumptive fantasy.
A trade war would bankrupt every single Chinese industry in weeks and we can then rebuild our industries right here.
Don’t believe it?
Neither did Japan. We would destroy China as a threat far more quickly than we did Japan.
Your post reads like the script for a cartoon
I never saw the second one and forgot it was made until this discussion.
I assume that you know that all of those systems are experimental?
None are deployed. And the U.S. armed forces will shoot large holes in any facility that is researching those systems in the first .1 second of any conflict
